Choosing an LLM Model

Raptor Write offers a variety of language models to choose from, each tailored to different writing needs. When selecting an LLM (Language Learning Model), you have several options:

• FFA Top 10 Models: These are the most recommended models by Future Fiction Academy, offering a balance of quality and versatility for general writing. You can find out more about our top models at the following page:

• FFA Top Spicy Models: Ideal for those writing explicit content, these models excel in generating not safe for work (NSFW) material. You can find out more about these models on the following page:

• Free Models: A selection of models that are entirely free to use on OpenRouter, perfect for budget-conscious authors.

• All Models: Provides access to every available model from OpenRouter within Raptor Write, allowing maximum flexibility.

• Favorites: Customize your experience by adding preferred models to this list for quick access. See information below on how to do that.

Adding Models to Favorites

To streamline your workflow, you can add frequently used models to your favorites list. Navigate to the settings menu and select "Model Favorites." Here, you'll find an alphabetized list of all available models from OpenRouter.

Simply check the box next to any model you wish to add as a favorite, scroll to the bottom and click SAVE. This customization allows you to quickly switch between preferred models during your writing sessions.

Understanding Foundational vs. Open Source Models

Raptor Write supports both frontier/commercial models and open source models via OpenRouter.

• Foundational/Commercial Models (such as OpenAI GPT, Claude, Gemini) are developed by leading tech companies and typically offer more advanced capabilities and higher accuracy due to extensive training data. They are smarter, faster, and have greater capabilities than other models. These models usually have guardrails, though, and so they are not suitable if your writing has NSFW (sex, violence, etc) content.
• Open Source Models are community-developed and provide flexibility in usage without licensing fees. While they may require more specific prompting techniques, they are continually evolving through community contributions. They tend to need more robust and specific prompting and they may often misunderstand directions if those prompts are not detailed enough. But bonus! Many of these models will handle NSFW material!

Each type of model has its strengths; commercial models often excel in understanding complex prompts, whereas open source models offer greater customization options.
